Thailand Privilege Card Guide

What is the Thailand Privilege Card?

A paid membership that comes with long stay permission, sold by a state-owned concessionaire rather than issued as a visa under the Immigration Act. Five tiers from THB 650,000 for five years to THB 5,000,000 for twenty. No income test, no deposit, no work permit. One year stay per entry.

What it is, precisely

This matters more than any tier table.

The Privilege Card is not a visa in the legal sense. It is a membership in a programme run by Thailand Privilege Card Co, which is state-owned, and the membership carries a permission to stay that Immigration honours.

Three consequences follow.

Assessment is by the company, not an immigration officer. That means faster, more predictable decisions and no statutory criteria to satisfy. It is why people with irregular income, crypto wealth or family money use it.

The terms are programme terms, not statute. The tier structure was rebuilt in 2023. Bronze is currently a limited promotion. When the programme changes, your permission changes with it.

It is not residence. No accumulation toward permanent residence, no domicile, no visa history in the usual sense.

Why anyone pays

Because the alternatives require evidence they cannot produce.

A DTV needs THB 500,000 parked for three months and a clean employment contract or portfolio. An LTR needs two years of documented income at USD 80,000, or USD 1,000,000 of assets. O-A needs age 50 and THB 800,000. The Privilege Card needs a payment.

For a 38 year old consultant paid through a mix of offshore entities, with real income and no clean paper trail, the card is the only route that works without months of restructuring. THB 650,000 for five years is USD 4,000 a year for a legal, renewable, no-questions permission to live in Thailand. That is not irrational.

The five tiers

Points are spent on airport transfers, spa treatments, health checkups, golf and similar. They are a lifestyle benefit, not a financial return. Treat their value as a discount, not an investment.

What you get

One year stay per entry, multiple entry, for the life of the membership. Premium immigration lane, personal assistant at the airport, 90 day reporting assistance, bank account support, driving licence facilitation.

On Platinum and above: family members, airport lounge access, annual health checkup, included limousine transfers.

What you do not get

A work permit. Working for a Thai employer on the card is a violation, same as any tourist status.

Permanent residence. No tier provides it, at any price.

A refundable deposit. The fee is spent, not held.

The 17 percent tax rate. That is LTR highly skilled only.

The right to stay continuously for years. One year per entry, then you exit and re-enter, though re-entry is unlimited and cheap.

The comparison people should make

Against the DTV: the DTV is cheaper in cash terms if you can show THB 500,000, because you keep the money. The card wins only if you cannot show it.

Against the LTR: the LTR is cheaper over ten years and gives better reporting terms, but requires USD 80,000 of documented income. The card wins only if you fail that test.

Against O-A: O-A requires age 50 and THB 800,000 parked. If you are over 50 with the deposit, O-A is far cheaper. The card wins for under-50s and for people who will not park capital.

The pattern: the card is a last resort that happens to be a good one. It is not a premium product for people who qualify elsewhere, despite the marketing.

Good fit

Under 50, earning well, unable to document it cleanly. Multiple income sources across jurisdictions. Crypto or business exits that do not produce tax returns an embassy will accept. Families wanting ten or fifteen years of cover on Platinum. Anyone who values a predictable yes over a cheap maybe.

Poor fit

People who can qualify for a DTV, LTR or O-A, because all three are cheaper. Budget travellers. People who need a work permit. Anyone hoping the years count toward residence. People who might want their money back.

Watchpoints

  1. Bronze is a limited promotion, currently to 31 December 2026.
  2. Family is Platinum and above only.
  3. No work permit on any tier.
  4. The fee is not refundable and not an investment.
  5. Programme terms can change, and have.
  6. One year per entry. You still leave and re-enter.
  7. Compare against the DTV before paying.
