DTV Documents Checklist
What documents does the DTV need?
Seven core documents. The fifth one changes depending on whether you are applying as a remote worker, a soft power participant, or a dependant. Three things get applications refused more than anything else: a bank balance that dipped in one of the three months, an unsigned or vague employment letter, and a police clearance that is older than three months.
The seven core documents
| # | Document | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Passport biodata page | Valid at least six months beyond travel date |
| 2 | Photograph | Taken within the past six months |
| 3 | Proof of current location | Driving licence, bank statement with address, or proof of stay |
| 4 | Bank statements | Three months, ending balance at least THB 500,000 each month, name and date visible |
| 5 | Category-specific document | See below |
| 6 | Proof of permanent residence | Valid visa or permanent resident card, for non-citizens |
| 7 | Police clearance | Issued within three months |
Document five, by category
Workcation. An employment contract or employment certificate from your country, or a professional portfolio demonstrating digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status. Self-employed applicants should include a business licence or business registration showing their name.
Thai soft power. A letter of acceptance from the institute or company running the activity, or a letter of appointment from a hospital or medical centre.
Spouse or child under 20. The main holder’s government ID, passport biodata page, and DTV approval.
Additional documents for non-citizens
If you are applying in a country where you are not a citizen, you need a copy of your permanent resident card or a valid visa with at least six months remaining. You also need a letter of proof of employment confirming position and work status, hand-signed by an authorised HR manager. Pay stubs are not accepted as a substitute at some missions, and a job offer is explicitly insufficient.
Students need a letter proving full-time enrolment, such as an I-20 in the US. Self-employed applicants need business registration in their own name.
Documents for minors
Under 20, applying as a dependant: birth certificate, parents’ marriage certificate, copies of both parents’ passports or IDs, and an original notarised consent letter if travelling without both parents. Where custody is sole, a notarised court order.
Minors under 16 may use the main sponsor’s police clearance instead of their own.
The three failures
A balance that moved. The rule is an ending balance of at least THB 500,000 in each of the three months. If April shows 620,000, May shows 480,000 and June shows 900,000, you fail, even though the average is above the line. Some missions check this line by line.
A vague employment letter. “This letter confirms that Jane works with us” is not enough. The letter should state position, employment status, that the work is remote, and be hand-signed. A contract is stronger than a letter. A pay stub is not a substitute.
Stale police clearance. Issued within three months of application. Not three months of travel. If processing is slow in your country, order it at the right point in the timeline and not earlier.
Formatting rules that trip people up
Screenshots are not statements. Banking apps produce screenshots by default. You need the downloadable statement or a stamped copy from the branch.
Statements must show your name and the statement date. A joint account needs proof of relationship.
Documents issued outside Thailand or the US in a non-English language need certified translation and notarisation by an embassy or ministry of foreign affairs. A regular notary is not enough where the mission specifies embassy notarisation.
File names and formats matter. Upload PDFs, legible, one document per file, in the order the checklist presents them.
If you are applying as a family
The main applicant files first and the dependants reference the approval. That means the dependants cannot complete until the main visa is issued, which adds time. Budget for it.
Family bank statements are accepted with proof of relationship, which is useful where one partner holds the savings and the other is applying.
Watchpoints
- Download real statements, not screenshots.
- Read the employment letter aloud. If it does not say you work remotely for a foreign entity, rewrite it.
- Check the police clearance issue date against your filing date, not your flight date.
- Get translations done by a certified translator and notarised the way your mission specifies.
- Do not submit an incomplete file to save a week. A request for more documents costs three.
- Keep a copy of everything. Border officers can ask for evidence of onward travel and funds on entry.
