UAE Employment Residence Visa
A two year residence permit sponsored by a licensed UAE employer, issued alongside a MOHRE work permit and tied to that employer.
This is what most residents of the UAE actually hold, and it is the least secure instrument on the site. The permit belongs to the employer, not to you. A dispute, a missed renewal or a lapse in the company licence can leave you out of status through no fault of your own. It is also the only route here with no qualifying asset and no salary floor for the visa itself, which makes it the easiest to enter and the easiest to lose.

Application flow
- Accept a job offer from a licensed UAE employer.
- The employer applies for the work permit and registers the labour contract.
- Complete medical screening, including the fitness test for the role.
- Apply for the residence stamp through ICP or GDRFA.
- Complete Emirates ID biometrics and enrolment.
- Collect the residence permit and labour card.
- Renew at two years. The employer files, not you.
Good fit
Anyone with a real job offer who wants to be in the country quickly and cheaply. People early in a UAE career who intend to build the salary history for a professional Golden Visa later. Employees of large employers with a functioning government relations team, where renewal is routine.
Poor fit
Anyone who wants to change jobs freely, since the permit is sponsor specific. Anyone who wants to stay without an employer, because there is no route on this visa. People at small companies with thin administration, where a licence lapse becomes your immigration problem.
Watchpoints
- The visa dies with the job. There is a grace period after termination, not an open ended right to stay. Plan the next step before the grace period runs out.
- The employer controls the permit. You cannot file for renewal yourself. Track the expiry date independently and start asking thirty days early.
- The two year clock is the residence visa, not the labour contract. Contracts can be unlimited or fixed term, and the two do not expire together.
- A second job is illegal without a permit. Freelance work for anyone else, paid or unpaid, is a breach.
- Family sponsorship has its own salary minimum. Commonly AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation, and it is tested separately from the visa itself.
- Job seeker and talent visas bridge gaps but count for nothing. They keep you legal between roles and add no time toward any settlement clock, because there is no clock.
