Thailand Non-Immigrant O-X Retirement Visa
Ten years for retirees, but only from the nationalities Thailand lists, and only with a large deposit held in the country. The O-X is narrower than the O-A and much longer.

What O-X is for
O-X was designed for retirees who want a decade of certainty instead of annual renewals, and who are willing to lock up serious capital to get it. It is not a better O-A. It is a different trade: more money immobilised, less paperwork per year.
Only certain nationalities qualify. Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, France, Germany and a handful of others are on the list. If your passport is not on it, O-X does not exist for you no matter how much money you have.
The money rules
Two routes:
THB 3,000,000 on deposit in a Thai bank in your own name.
THB 1,800,000 on deposit plus THB 1,200,000 annual income, which must be provable, typically pension or other passive income.
Either way the full amount must be maintained for one year after approval. After that the floor drops to THB 1,500,000. Half of the remaining funds can be used inside Thailand for property, medical or living costs, subject to the floor.
The practical effect is that O-X costs you the use of roughly THB 1,500,000 for a decade. Whether that is better than renewing an O-A annually is a personal calculation.
Good fit
Retirees from an eligible nationality who want to stop renewing every year and can afford to have THB 1,500,000 sitting in Thailand for ten years. Couples where both partners want cover, since family is included.
Poor fit
Anyone from a nationality not on the list. Anyone who cannot lock up that capital. Anyone who might need the money for something else, because the floor is a hard floor. People who would rather keep capital invested, since O-A needs a third of the deposit and O-X needs three times it.
Watchpoints
- Nationality list is the gate. Check it before reading anything else about O-X.
- THB 3,000,000 is not spendable. The floor after year one is THB 1,500,000 and it must remain.
- Insurance is required and must be Thai-approved.
- Still no permanent residence. Ten years is the maximum, and then you renew or switch.
- O-X is not commonly used. Few missions process it routinely, so expect the process to be slower and less well understood than O-A.
