Visa Rumah Kedua Pekerja Jarak Jauh (E33G)

Work for a company outside Indonesia and this gives you a year inside it, with no local sponsor. What it does not give you is a road to staying permanently.

The name is the first trap. “Rumah kedua” means second home, and the visa is filed in the second home family, but it is not a residence route and it is not a retirement route. It is a one year permit for a foreign payroll. The second trap is the number people remember: USD 60,000 is an income test, not a savings test, and a bank balance alone will not pass it.

Application flow

  1. Confirm the employer is a legal entity established outside Indonesia. Your own offshore company is scrutinised; a foreign owned PT PMA inside Indonesia disqualifies you.
  2. Assemble income evidence: employment contract or client contracts, and bank statements showing salary credits rather than a closing balance.
  3. Prove the USD 2,000 balance as a three month average, not a single deposit.
  4. Apply at evisa.imigrasi.go.id and upload the documents.
  5. Pay the government fee of IDR 7,000,000.
  6. Receive the visa electronically. It must be used within 90 days of issue.
  7. Enter Indonesia, then complete the ITAS issuance step online.
  8. Before month 12, decide whether you are extending inside Indonesia or leaving and reapplying. See the renewal note below.

Good fit

A remote employee or contractor on a foreign payroll above USD 60,000 who wants a one year base without asking an Indonesian company for a sponsor. It is fast, entirely online, and cheap next to the investment routes. It also suits someone testing whether Indonesia works for them before committing to a company, a property or a marriage.

Poor fit

Anyone building toward permanent residence. The E33G is not on the statutory conversion list, so a decade of renewals buys nothing. Couples where one person earns, because there is no dependant clause and the spouse needs a separate visa. Freelancers whose income arrives in lumpy invoices, since immigration wants provable salary credits and savings do not substitute.

Watchpoints

  1. The renewal question is genuinely unresolved. The Directorate General page states the stay permit can be extended and that extensions are filed at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The eVisa portal page for E33G says nothing about extension. Several agencies say holders must leave and reapply, others sell a renewal, and quotes differ by millions of rupiah. Budget for a visa run and a fresh application, and treat a single extension as a bonus rather than a plan.
  2. The 90 day entry window kills the fee. The visa is valid for 90 days from issue. If you do not enter in that window it expires and the IDR 7,000,000 is not refunded.
  3. Income, not wealth. The USD 60,000 must be provable as income. A large savings balance with no salary history is refused.
  4. No Indonesian income of any kind. The permit bars salary, wages and similar payments from an Indonesian person or company, and bars selling goods or services locally. Invoicing an Indonesian client from abroad breaches it.
  5. No dependants. Families end up buying two visas, or putting a spouse on a visit permit and cycling it.
  6. Tax residence is separate from immigration. Crossing 183 days makes you an Indonesian tax resident with worldwide income taxable to 35 percent. There is no digital nomad exemption in Indonesian law, whatever the marketing says.
